Don't have quarterly goals? You're missing the mark!
If you aren't breaking your annual goals into quarterly goals, you are *seriously* missing the mark.
OKRs, milestones, targets, rocks... whatever you want to call them, they're crucial for making progress and achieving literally anything in your business.

[00:00:00] Let's talk about why annual goals with the absence of quarterly goals just do not make sense. There's tons of good frameworks out there. There's OKRs. The EOS framework of annual goals and rocks.
Goals, sub goals, whatever you want to call it. Goals are extremely important in a business and extremely important for helping teams and individuals understand how they contribute to those goals and actually making progress on those goals.
When you have an annual goal, let's say it's improving project throughput by 40 percent. If you say we want to get there this year, you might have in your mind an outline of how to get there.
But the reality is if you're leading an organization, or you're leading a team, that's not your goal solely to own or make progress on. You probably have project managers below you, other people who own projects, who need to be part of helping that goal be achieved. So how do you help those people understand what to do.
Insert quarterly goals.
This is where you break that thing down and you say, what are we going to achieve this quarter? And what's your role in that? And who owns it [00:01:00] to make sure that we are making the progress we need to make to get to that annual goal.
What I've seen time and time again is that if you do not have quarterly goals it's very easy to not make progress or really not know if you are making progress until you get to the end of the year and it's like, shoot, we're not going to make that. You can avoid this by making quarterly goals and helping your team understand the work that they need to do to help achieve those.
